One of my most anticipated trips of 2025 was easily Cape May, New Jersey. Cape May has to be one of the best places on the east coast to see and photograph shorebirds. So what do you think my reaction was when my friend Sam told me that a Reddish Egret made its grand entrance mere days before my Grandmother and I would start our journey down.

Once we arrived in Cape May, the Egret was about a mile and a half in the marsh land. We waited for 2 hours and decided to pack it up for the day and come back later. Well little did I know, my Grandmother would check through her binoculars one last time and witness the Egret flying directly at us. It landed 10 feet from both of us, and my Grandmother scrambled to go find the other photographers who had just left the area. While she did that, I fell to the ground and captured an immense amount of photos.

( P.S. this bird is meant to be running in circles in the gulf coast).
